Rielle Berglund

Matilda Tree Finance

If buying a home has ever felt like it was built for someone else, with a payslip, a partner and spare time you do not have, you are exactly who I work with. I help single parents, women and self employed Australians find a loan that fits the life they actually live.

I'm Rielle Berglund, and I started Matilda Tree Finance after trying to buy a home while running my own business. The process felt like it was made for someone else entirely, and somewhere in the middle of the late nights and the paperwork, I realised how many people were quietly going through the same thing. Single parents buying on one income. Women working out finance on their own for the first time. Self employed people who are more than their tax returns suggest. If that is you, you are in good hands. What I really do is carry the heavy part for you. I work across a wide panel of bank and non-bank lenders, so I can go looking for the one that genuinely suits your situation rather than squeezing you into whatever your own bank offers. I do the research, the comparing, the chasing and the paperwork. You get clear options, realistic timelines and someone who will always tell you where you actually stand. Most of the people I work with come to me feeling like the system was not designed with them in mind. My hope is that by the time we are done, the whole thing has felt a good deal kinder than they expected.

Can I really buy a home as a single parent on one income?
Yes, and more often than people expect. There are programs built specifically for single parents, including one that lets eligible buyers in with a small deposit rather than the usual twenty percent. The harder part is that every lender reads income like Centrelink, child support or self employed earnings a little differently, so one may say no while another says yes to the very same application. A lot of my work is simply knowing who is likely to say yes before we apply, so you are not collecting knock-backs along the way.
I'm self employed. Will a lender actually take me seriously?
You are far more than your tax return suggests, and the right lender knows that. The trick is presenting your income to a lender who understands how businesses really work, rather than one expecting neat payslips. Some are happy to work from a single year of figures, others want two full years, and a few offer low-doc options when your paperwork is still catching up. I will point you toward the ones who fit your situation instead of the ones who will quietly discount it.
I'm buying my first home and feel a bit lost. Is that normal?
Completely normal, and you do not have to make sense of it alone. There is a lot to take in, from deposits and grants to all the moments of "wait, what does that actually mean?" My job is to walk it with you, one step at a time, and keep explaining until it feels clear. By the end you will know what you can do, what it will cost, and exactly what happens next.
Do you help people buying an investment property?
Yes, whether it is your first or your fifth. How a loan is structured early on quietly shapes how far your portfolio can stretch later, so it is worth getting right from the start. We can talk through things like offset accounts, interest-only periods and whether to keep properties separate or linked, in plain language, so you stay in control of where it is all heading.
Where in Australia do you work with clients?
Right across the country. Almost everything happens by phone, video and secure document upload, so wherever you are, the experience is the same. You do not need to live near me, and you do not need to take a day off to sit in an office.
Why use a broker instead of just going to my own bank?
Your bank can only offer you its own products. I can look across a wide panel of bank and non-bank lenders and go searching for the one that genuinely suits you, then handle the comparing, chasing and paperwork on your behalf. It tends to save people a good deal of time, and often a fair bit of stress.
What actually happens on the first call?
It is a relaxed thirty minute chat, free and with no obligation. I listen to where you are and what you are hoping to do, answer your questions, and by the end you will have a clear picture of where you stand. No pressure to go further unless it feels right to you.
