Interest Only (IO)
A repayment structure where your repayments cover only the interest for a set period, commonly one to five years, so the loan balance does not reduce. Repayments are lower during the IO period but higher afterwards, because the full principal must then be repaid over a shorter remaining term. Lenders usually charge a higher rate for interest only and apply tighter serviceability tests.
