SMSF (Self-Managed Super Fund)

A superannuation fund you run yourself, with up to six members who are generally all trustees, regulated by the ATO rather than APRA. An SMSF can borrow to buy an investment asset, but only through a limited recourse borrowing arrangement with the asset held in a separate bare trust. Trustees carry legal responsibility for compliance, so specialist advice is essential.
